It was an encouraging moment to join Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller and Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Currin on the Unity Bridge in the Village of Matteson to express each of our individual reactions, as South Suburban elected officials,but more importantly, as mothers, to the murder of George Floyd. We each discussed how on every level of government, we will continue to pursue racial equity, justice and reform for the Southland.

From the Desk of State Rep Meyers-Martin

Today, I was given a tour of the new Markham COVID-19 Drive-thru testing site. The site is located at 3824 W 159th Place in Markham, just south of 159th Street. Many Southland residents will recognize this location as the Auto Emissions Testing Station. Testing oversight will be conducted by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Testing intake, and traffic logistics will be handled by Illinois National Guard. Policy dictates that testing will be provided to people displaying symptoms of the Coronavirus therefore there will be temperature checks as part of intake.  This site will begin testing, starting tomorrow, Tuesday morning, April 14th at 8am.
I am pleased that the south suburbs now has this most needed testing site, and we continue to request all the necessary resources we need to fight this COVID-19 pandemic in the South Suburbs…
